How Anamê Vio changed my life!

 Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

I was diagnosed with Rosacea over 25 years ago and have used a variety of traditional treatments to manage this facial rash.  Those treatments have included oral antibiotics and antibiotic and azeolic acid creams. Over a year ago I noticed that these treatments were becoming less effective and I began to search for natural and organic alternatives.  I found Aname Vio, I started using the tonic in the morning (after shaving) followed by the daytime moisturizer and then the tonic again at night followed by the nightime repair cream. I noticed a gradual improvement in my appearance over the following two weeks. As a result of my experience with the products, I began to work with Daiana and Grace to help promote these natural, organic skin care treatments.

Grace had developed Celiac disease and that led her to a gluten free, organic diet. Interestingly, Grace had already been involved in skin care cosmetics and this became the light for the development of an organic, natural skin care line. I have been impressed by the commitment of both Daiana and Grace to the development and promotion of this skin care line. They are committed to help make people feel better about their skin and their appearance. Along those lines they are committed to a process that’s natural and organic. Skin care products from Anamê Vio contain naturally occurring ingredients from our environment. They are harvested and utilized in a sustainable way. They are organic without preservatives or synthetic compounds. There has been no animal testing and these products are certified as organic from the USDA.

In summary, I believe in the 1) products, 2) people, and 3) process.

Sincerely,

Hari P. Bezwada, MD

Organic Pure Essential Oil Benefits

 Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

Just a few drops of the best organic pure essential oils added to an Anamê Vio Hydrating lotion can provide your skin with all the nutrients necessary to keep you looking great.  For the purpose of this discussion all the essential oils discussed here and from Aname Vio are pure and organic.   These essential oils are a great way to improve the vitality of your skin and can be used to combat the signs of aging, such as dry skin or wrinkles.

Anamê Vio has a variety of organic pure essential oils including the following:

Sweet Almond Oil, Castor Oil, Cinnamon leaf Oil, Argan nut Oil, Rosehip Oil, Walnut Oil, Macademia nut Oil, Geranium Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Orange Oil, Lemon Oil, and Vegetable Glycerin.

We are going to highlight several of Anamê Vio pure organic essential oils. Discuss their plant origins, where they are produced, and the healthy skin benefits.

Rose Hip Oil Pure Organic Essential oil is rich in essential vitamins and antioxidants.  Rose hip contains high levels of vitamin C, a nutrient that reduces wrinkles and helps repair ultraviolet sun damage.  It also penetrates deeply into your skin without leaving an oily residue and it has the potential to brighten your skin and reduce dark spots.  Researchers believe that this benefit may come from a fatty acid called linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is a building block for ceramides, a compound that occurs naturally in cell membranes to moisturize your skin.  Rosehip oil also contains vitamin A which promotes skin cell turnover and cellular reproduction.  Mixing rosehip organic pure essential oils with Anamê Vio Facial Repair Cream will doubly hydrate your skin especially during the winter months when your skin suffers from intense heat inside and from the cold outside and its drying affects.  Rosehip Oil also helps with scars.  In a 2015 study, participants treated post-surgical scars two times a day with rosehip oil. After three months, the patients using rosehip oil experienced improvement in inflammation and scarring when compared to those who didn’t use the oil. (Valeron-Almazon, et al, 2015)

Castor oil originates from India. It’s derived by extracting oil from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant.  Ricinoleic acid, the main fatty acid found in castor oil, has impressive anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that when castor oil is applied topically, it reduces inflammation and relieves pain.  Mixing Anamê Vio facial cream with pure organic essential castor oil and applying to your skin helps to restore your skin’s natural moisture balance. It should be applied gently to your face and massaged in a circular motion.  You may even leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning.  There are specific benefits to address common skin issues:

Acne: The antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of castor oil make it useful in reducing acne.  Ricinoleic acid can inhibit growth in the bacteria that cause acne.

Texture: Castor oil is also rich in other fatty acids and these can enhance smoothness and softness when applied to your face.

Complexion: The fatty acids in castor oil can also promote the growth of healthy skin tissue, making it helpful in restoring uneven skin tones.

Sensitive skin: Castor oil has a low comedogenic score. This means it is unlikely to clog pores in your skin and reduces the risk of developing blackheads, making it appropriate for use on sensitive skin.

Pure organic essential castor oil is rich in omega 6 fatty acid, Vitamin E, and important minerals.  These ingredients lead to the following positive effects:

  • Regenerative activity
  • Anti-inflammatory and Antibacterial
  • Reduces dark circles
  • Improves scars
  • Eliminates moles in a month
  • Removes warts if applied for a month
  • Reduces and prevents stretch marks
  • When mixed with baking soda removes dark spots
  • Fights hair loss
  • Hardens nails
  • Helps grow eyebrows and eyelashes
  • Softens and softens calluses
  • Eliminates nail and foot fungus with daily application
  • Oral consumption may help relieve back pain, reduce joint inflammation and constipation
  • A couple drops in your ear may improve your hearing

Argan Essential Oil comes from Morocco and it is made from the kernels of the argan tree which is native to Morocco. It is most frequently sold as a pure oil, which can be directly applied topically.  Pure Argan oil has traditionally been used both topically and orally to improve the health of skin, hair, and nails. It contains a number of different beneficial properties and vitamins that form a powerful combination to boost skin health.  Argan oil is most commonly used as a skin moisturizer to hydrate and soften your skin.  With its high vitamin E and fatty acid content, argan oil is the ideal product to give your skin a natural boost.  It absorbs easily and is non-greasy and non-irritating, which makes it a great natural moisturizer.  Mixing Argan oil with Anamê Vio facial moisturizer at night will give your skin a youthful glow and reduce the visibility of wrinkles.  Its anti-oxidant effect makes argan oil the ideal anti-aging product. It helps to restore elasticity and leave your skin feeling plumper and softer.  The vitamin E and fatty acids in argan oil are excellent for repairing damaged skin and providing it with nutrients which help prevent further dryness and irritation.  Acne is often in the setting of oily skin.  Since argan oil is non-greasy, it helps to balance skin by providing a natural moisturizer.  Argan oil also contains anti-oxidants which help to heal damaged skin cells and reduce inflammation.

People throughout the world have taken advantage of the many argan oil benefits to help treat skin infections, bug bites and skin rashes.  Now it is commonly used by men and women all over the world seeking an effective, all-natural moisturizer for skin and hair.  One of the main reasons that argan oil is so therapeutic is because it’s rich with vitamin A and vitamin E, and also packed with antioxidants, omega-6 fatty acids and linoleic acid. Research shows that when applied to skin, argan oil benefits include easing inflammation while moisturizing the skin.

When applied externally, trocopherol from the vitamin E helps to boost cell production while promoting healthy skin and hair. This is why cosmetic companies are including it in their high-end anti-aging, hair and skin care products.  The good news is that to get argan oil benefits you don’t have to purchase luxury hair and skin care products. You can just purchase pure organic argan essential oil, making it a versatile addition to your beauty routine.  Although 100 percent argan oil can be expensive, just a drop or two will nourish hair and skin throughout the day.

Argan oil is for all skin types, but especially for older, oily skin or acne prone skin.

  • Stimulates the regeneration and oxygenation of the skin
  • Beneficial for hair, provides shine and softness, repairs dry ends, apply oil once a week on all hair for 30 minutes and then wash

Pure Organic Avocado Essential oil originates from Kenya.  It is one of the best absorbing oils and has a moisturizing effect and promotes hydration.  Avocado oil induces collagen production and increased elasticity (ideal for aging, sun damaged, mature and devitalized skin) also reduces discoloration.  It is mainly recommended for dry, dehydrated, and sun damaged skin.  When applied to dry skin, it almost immediately stops dehydration.  In people with sensitive skin, symptoms of dryness, peeling and tightness improve quickly.  Avocado oil contains high levels of vitamin E which has antioxidant effects.  In addition to preventing skin aging and it smooths and softens your skin.

Pure Organic Essential Coconut Oil comes from the Phillipines.  It is derived from the coconut meat and then cold pressed.  It is powerful moisturizer for the skin of your face and body.  Coconut oil contains two fatty acids (capric and lauric acid) both are found in breast milk and have antimicrobial effects.  Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory, helps in wound healing, and is rich in vitamin E.  It’s ideal for dry skin because it restores your skin’s moisture.  This is most noticeable when use on the skin around your eyes, substantially minimizing dark circles and bags within two weeks if used nightly and especially when combined with a couple drops of sweet almond oil.  Coconut oil has a smoothing effect, anti-wrinkle effect, and fights free radicals.  It is generally not recommended for oily and acne prone skin.

Additional benefits of coconut essential oil include:

  • Red stretch mark reducer (rosehip oil may be added)
  • Smoothes and moisturizes your hair (apply it from the scalp to the ends and then wash or apply it after shampoo leave on for ten minutes for a better straight effect)
  • It can be used as a hair protector on the beach against wind and sun damage
  • For dry lips, for dry cracked hands
  • Facial and body scrub when combined with organic sugar and rosehip oil

Organic Pure Essential Oil Vs. Conventional Essential Oil

  Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

Pure organic essential oils are typically superior to conventional oils.  Certified pure organic essential oils are steam distilled or cold pressed from plants that are grown without pesticides.  This is an important distinction as some pesticides may remain in conventional essential oils.  Pesticides found in plant material may be either oil or water soluble. During distillation, oil soluble pesticides become homogenized with the essential oil, whereas the water soluble pesticides will become homogenized with the hydrosol, which gets separated from the oil. Hydrosol is plant water that is an essential water and can some of the benefits of an essential oil.

There are Five way to differentiate a pure organic essential oil from one that’s not or a fake.

1. How it Pours

Typically the container is sealed with an orifice reducer to control the number of drops dispensed.  This is necessary, not only to make sure you get the correct dose, but also to help prolong the shelf life an essential oil, which is susceptible to oxidation, by reducing its exposure to air. Droppers should not be made of rubber or plastic as both materials may break down and release synthetic impurities into the oil.

2. How it Looks

Place one drop on white paper and let it dry. If you see an oily ring left behind, it is not a pure essential oil and likely fake.  The oil needs to be pure to be most effective.

3. The Price

While high price does not necessarily translate to high quality, essential oils are usually costly. It takes a lot of plant material just to fill a single bottle of essential oil, and when the plant is rare or scarce, it further drives up the price.

4. Its Container

Essential oils should be stored in glassware containers because their strong chemical compounds break down and react with plastic. Furthermore, glass must be amber or dark blue to protect the oil from ultraviolet light.  Bottles ought to be kept in a cool place, because heat interferes with the chemical composition of the oil.

5. The Feel

Place a drop of a seed, vegetable, or nut oil on the pad of one index finger, and place a drop of essential oil on the other. Then rub the oils using your thumbs. Good or true essential oils have some slip and should not feel greasy or thick.

Most consumers feel that there is better quality, therapeutic benefit and aroma of pure organic essential oils.  Producers must carefully source pure organic essential oils from plants that are grown in in compliance with organic farming principles.  Pure organic essential oils may be more expensive, however it is more costly to grow organic plants, maintain organic certification, and carefully process the essential oil.

Anamê Vio has a great variety of organic pure essential oils. Including sweet almond oil, castor oil, cinnamon leaf oil, argannut oil, rosehip oil, walnut oil, macademia nut oil, geranium oil, lemongrass oil, orange oil, lemon oil, and vegetable glycerin.

Just a few drops of the best organic pure essential oils added to an Anamê Vio hydrating lotion can provide the skin with the nutrients it requires to keep it looking great. Pure organic essential oils are a great way to improve the vitality of your skin and can be used to combat the signs of aging, such as dry skin or wrinkles.

Organic Lifestyle

Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

The Organic Lifestyle

Skin care products from Anamê Vio contain naturally occurring ingredients from our environment.  They are harvested and utilized in a sustainable way.  They are organic without preservatives or synthetic compounds.  There has been no animal testing and these products are certified as organic from the USDA.

This may be an essential part of a lifestyle that’s healthy and organic.  So when we think about a healthy organic lifestyle there are three essential parts.  First, what we put in our bodies, second what we put on our bodies and third how we treat our bodies. So these are three essential steps in developing a sustainable healthy organic natural lifestyle that will keep you healthy for years to come.  Healthy skincare may mean taking a comprehensive holistic approach and addressing external environmental factors (weather, sun exposure) and lifestyle factors (stress, diet, sleep) as well.

When using sunscreen adequate application is important.  A baseline application of Anamê Vio skin products will provide antioxidant protection and an additional skin barrier layer.  For your face, we recommend using about a nickel to quarter sized amount to cover your entire face.  After applying sunscreen in the morning, having a separate sun protection product for later application may be essential especially before outside exposure.  Sun exposure may create free radicals through ultraviolet radiation.  These free radicals may create an inflammatory cycle inducing further skin damage.  The naturally antioxidants in Anamê Vio skin products can scavenge free radicals and prevent skin damage from ultraviolet radiation.  Other environmental pathogens such as pollution, smoking, stress, even a poor diet may also lead to free radical generation.

The following ingredients are in Anamê Vio skin products

Rose hip oil reduces the appearance of cellulite and prevents scars.  Rose hip oil is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants especially vitamin c, which are integral for tissue and cell regeneration in the skin. Vitamin a penetrates deeply and moisturizes helping to reduce scars and fine lines.  Rose hip also has high concentrations of vitamins E, B1, B2, and cicatrizing properties.  This is perhaps the reason why rosehip oil has long been used as a folk remedy for wound healing and the reduction of scars and fine lines.

Blueberry is rich in amino acids, vitamins, oleic, essential fatty acids (omega6, omega9) and antioxidants.  All of which are vital elements for your skin.  It is a natural revitalizer and a rich antioxidant that nature offers in pure essence.

Aloe Vera is a cell regenerator, cicatrizant and skin toner.  Aloe is ideal for sunburned or irritated skin.  Aloe vera features cooling properties that can be soothing for sun damaged skin.  It may also reduce skin irritation and inflammation due to acne and eczema.  Aloe has bioactive compounds rich in vitamins A, B , C, D and E as well as minerals like magnesium, potassium and zinc.  These all contribute to the healing benefits of aloe.

Jojoba Oil has a high concentration of ceramides.  Ceramides are lipids found in our body and are essential for skin health.  They help to maintain cell integrity.  It contains vitamin E which as an antioxidant and helps to prevents skin aging.  It is also excellent to use as a makeup remover and as acne treatment.  It can also be used to moisturize dry hair and skin.

It is important to create an individualized skin regime that works best for you.  For example, if you’re super stressed, maybe you could use a facial mask to help you carve out some time to relax. Starting and ending the day with organic moisturizing creams, help to get your skin to its best start and end of each day.  Adding daytime moisturizing cream protects your skin against those environmental pathogens.  Don’t forget to clean your skin before bed with the organic jojoba cleaning oil, using night time nourishing facial cream allows the reparative healing process to occur when the body is at rest.

Healthy exercise

The National Institutes of Health recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, otherwise a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. An exercise regimen should be spread out over the course of a week and greater amounts of exercise will provide even further health benefits. Even brief periods of activity throughout the day can add up to provide additional health benefits as well. Strength training exercises for all major muscle groups are recommended at least twice a week. The goal is to do a single set of each exercise, using a weight or resistance level heavy enough to tire your muscles after approximately 12 to 15 repetitions. Moderate aerobic exercise includes activities such as brisk walking, swimming, and mowing the lawn. Vigorous aerobic exercise includes activities such as running and sporting activities. Strength training can include the use of weight machines, free weights, or body weight resistance. As a general goal, you should aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on a daily basis. For weight loss, maintaining weight loss or meet specific fitness goals, you may need to exercise more. You can achieve more health benefits if you ramp up your exercise to 300 minutes or more a week. Sitting too much can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes and then your mortality. Again even brief bouts of activity offer benefits. For instance, if you can’t fit in one 30-minute walk during the day, try a few five-minute walks instead. Any activity is better than none at all. What’s most important is making regular physical activity a part of your healthy lifestyle.

Regular exercise may be beneficial to your skin care.  An exceptional skin care program will consist of a natural organic cosmetic skin care line, healthy nutrition, adequate hydration, and regular exercise.  Sweating opens your pores and releases toxins that can clog pores and lead to pimples and blemishes.  Exercise also reduces levels of the body’s natural stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol.  Additionally, it stimulates the production of endorphins, which are the body’s inherent painkillers and mood elevators.  Stress may have a negative effect on your skin, causing to be more sensitive and is probably due to elevated cortisol levels.  An exercise routine will help to combat this effect.  Loose and sagging skin may reflect poor muscle tone.  Increasing muscle mass and tone will help firm up your skin and improve its appearance.

Hydration

Proper fluid intake is essential to keep your body well hydrated and without that your body will not function optimally.  If you don’t drink enough fluid, your body temperature and heart rate may rise due to hypovolemia.  The following symptoms may occur from dehydration: Fatigue, mental impairment, slowing down of bodily functions, and poor sports performance.  The impact is even worse when you’re active and dehydrated in hot conditions.  The simple solution is to drink plenty of fluids when you exercise.  Drinking enough fluids will help to maintain your concentration, performance, and increase endurance.  The amount of water you need depends on a variety of factors, such as the weather, health, clothing, exercise intensity and duration.

As a guide, you need more fluid if you:

  • Sweat heavily
  • Have certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease
  • Are using a medication that can act as a diuretic
  • Have a larger body habits
  • Are fit (because healthy people tend to sweat more and earlier in their exercise)
  • Are doing vigorous exercise
  • Are active in hot and humid conditions.

Thirst isn’t the best indicator that you need to drink. In fact, if you feel thirsty, you are probably already dehydrated.  A good indicator of dehydration is your urine color.  If it’s pale and clear it means you’re well hydrated. The darker it is, the more fluid you need to drink.  Another sign of dehydration is a lack of sweat during vigorous activity.  No sweating is a sign that you’re both dehydrated and possibly suffering heat exhaustion.

Dehydration occurs when your body’s water content is too low. Signs of dehydration include: headaches, fatigue, mood changes, slow reaction times, dry nasal passages, dry or cracked lips, dark colored urine, muscle cramps, weakness, confusion, and hallucinations.  If you experience any of these symptoms, you may need to increase your fluid intake immediately.  If you don’t rehydrate, your physical and mental performance is likely to be affected. When you exercise, your body sweats as it tries to cool. As your sweat evaporates to remove body heat, you also lose fluid.  So, you need to drink fluid during exercise to replace the fluids you lose when you sweat. The general rule is; if you’re sweating, you need to be drinking fluids.

Water is the best drink to satisfy thirst and replace fluid loss.  It is important to drink water before starting exercise.  Water is natural, free, calorie-free, and contains fluoride.  Some athletes promote sports drinks that contain electrolytes and carbohydrates, which have electrolytes that allow the body to refuel during exercise. Sports drinks may be useful if your activity is moderate to vigorous in intensity for more than 60 minutes. However, sports drinks may be high in sugar, so consume them cautiously.  Remember that fruit and vegetables contain a high proportion of water, so fruits (oranges) can help fluid and electrolyte replacement. In order to adequately rehydrate after exercise, aim to drink one and a half times your fluid losses and replenish your fluids over the next two to six hours.  You need to drink extra fluids because fluid losses persist after exercise sweating and urination even after you have finished your session.

As we have outlined previously, adequate hydration is an important part of a skin care program.  It is generally recommended to drink 8 glasses (8 ounces) of water daily to prevent dehydration. Drinking plenty of water will help rid your body and skin of toxins leading your skin to have a radiant glow.  Detox water is water infused with fruit, vegetables, or herbs and may help remove toxins, weight loss, pH balance, and boost immunity.  However, many of these benefits may be attributable to the water itself.  What we do know is that drinking more water probably won’t hurt you and can help to improve your health.

Healthy Diet

A proper healthy diet is necessary for healthy and youthful appearing skin.  A nutritious diet will provide the building blocks for your skin to restore itself and the cells to regenerate.  It will also allow natural collagen production and give your skin the ability to regenerate cells and naturally produce collagen and moisturizing sebum.
Fruits and vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet. Varying them will ensure that you receive the most nutritional benefits that natural foods can offer. High fiber food, most notably vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains are essential. Fiber slows the absorption of carbohydrates reducing the effect on insulin and blood sugar.  Whole fruits add more fiber than juices. The nutrients and phytochemical in these foods may also help protect against certain types of cancer.
Sugary foods, beverages, and refined grains should be limited and these include soda, candy, white bread, regular pasta, and snack foods and baked goods. A high dietary sugar intake increases systemic inflammation and insulin resistance, increasing the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other disorders and it supplies “empty” calories that contribute to weight gain. Refined grain products have little dietary fiber and have been stripped of many nutrients.  Whole grains such as whole wheat, oats, barley, or brown rice retain the bran and germ and nearly all of the nutrients and fiber of the grain. Processed foods are typically commercial, packaged foods that are industrially formulated mixtures that are no longer recognizable as their original plant or animal sources.  These include hot dogs, margarine, ice cream, candy, and many packaged snack foods.  They lack key nutrients and fiber and are high in sugars and sodium.
The saturated fats in animal foods increase LDL cholesterol and have other adverse effects. Lean meats, skinless poultry, and nonfat or low-fat dairy products will reduce saturated fats intake. It’s also a good idea to replace saturated fats with unsaturated fats.  For instance, substitute olive or canola oil for butter, and nuts for chips. Fish may reduce the risk of heart disease and have other benefits, attributed at least in part to their omega-3 polyunsaturated fats.  Excess sodium, found in many processed foods may also influence the development of hypertension.
Supplements cannot replace a healthy diet, which supplies other potentially beneficial compounds besides vitamins and minerals. Foods also provide the synergy that many nutrients require to be efficiently used in the body. Still, for many people a basic multivitamin can provide some of the essential nutrients for which they have dietary deficiency.  Supplemental folic acid, vitamin B12, calcium, and vitamin D support bone health and have other possible benefits. Dairy products are the best sources of calcium, but are also in fortified foods as well as canned salmon, sardines, dark leafy greens, and most tofu. If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation and that means one drink a day for women, two a day for men.
For many people, food is a chore, a challenge, even a source of dread, as they try to overcome poor eating habits. But eating should be a joy and a centerpiece of family life. Many cultures around the world emphasize the enjoyment of food, which includes cooking and eating with others, as an integral component of good health. According to some research, shared mealtimes, especially during childhood, may help protect against nutrition-related health problems as well as increase prosocial behavior in adulthood.
Healthy glowing skin is not just about applying the best creams or masks.  It’s a combination of steps that should be implemented.
1) Drinking enough water
2) Using the right organic moisturizer for your skin without parabens, synthetics or silicones in order to protect and not damage your skin
3) Sleeping at least 6 hours
4) Following an exercise routine
5) Watching what you eat and making sure that it’s healthy and nutritious.

This combination truly starts from the inside out with what you put in your body, on your body, and how you treat your body!

Sunscreen

Dr. Hari P. Bezwada

Sunscreen works by blocking and absorbing UV rays through physical and chemical particles. Physical particles like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide work like a shield and reflect UV radiation. Chemical ingredients (oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, octnoxate) in sunscreen react with UV radiation before it penetrates our skin absorbing the rays and releasing the energy as heat. Many sunscreens contain ingredients that only block UVB rays, providing insufficient protection against UVA rays. Sun protection factor or SPF refers to how much longer it takes UVB rays to redden our skin with sunscreen compared without sunscreen. SPF 15 means it will take 15 times longer for the skin to burn.

Survey data suggests that the majority of Americans do not apply sunscreen daily throughout the course of the year. Current recommendations are that everyone use sunscreen because just about anyone can develop skin cancer regardless of age, gender, or race. In terms of the sunscreen, most dermatologists suggest broad spectrum protection (UVA & UVB), SPF 30 or higher, and water resistance. Other recommendations are to seek shade (especially between 10am-2pm), wear protective clothing, use extra caution around snow, water, sand, and avoid tanning beds.  Sunscreen should be used daily even on cloudy days. Most people only apply 25-50 percent of the recommended amount. It is important to apply enough to cover all exposed skin and 15 minutes before going outside. Don’t forget to protect your lips, feet, neck, ears, and eyelids. Reapply every 2 hours especially after swimming or sweating.
Creams are best for dry skin and the face. Gels are good for hairy areas and sticks around the eyes.
Spray sunscreen may be more prone to application error especially inadequate coverage and strong winds.  Typical body coverage requires 1 ounce of spray sunscreen and it has to be rubbed in.  It should not be sprayed around your face and mouth.

Remember that the point of sunscreen is to protect against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.  These effects include, wrinkling, premature aging, skin cancer, and sunburn.

Ultraviolet Radiation

Dr. Hari Bezwada, MD

Ultraviolet Radiation

We have previously discussed how our skin is the fabric that wraps around our bodies, protects our vital organs, and provides a barrier to the outside environment.  It can be damaged by the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.  This damage can accelerate the aging process and ultraviolet radiation can be a major risk factor in the development of most skin cancers. Sunlight and tanning beds are the main sources of ultraviolet rays.  UV rays damages our skin cells DNA leading to cancer. There are three main types of UV rays. UVA rays were originally thought to only cause aging and wrinkles, but they penetrate deeply and can damage cellular DNA leading to a developing role in skin cancer. Tanning beds give off UVA rays and these rays can also increase the skin cancer risk.  UVB rays have more energy than UVA rays and more strongly associated with sunburns and may cause most skin cancers.  UVC rays have more energy but don’t get through the atmosphere and are not a normal cause of skin cancer.

The strength of UV rays depends on a number of factors:  time of day, season, distance from the equator, altitude, cloud cover, and reflection of surfaces. The amount of UV exposure one can get depends on the strength of the rays, duration of skin exposure, and whether the skin is protected with clothing or sunscreen. Frequent sunburns may increase the risk of some skin cancers years later. Long term exposure to UV rays can cause early skin aging, wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dark patches, and precancerous skin changes. UV rays may also increase the risk of cataracts.

Interestingly adequate sun exposure is important in vitamin D metabolism.  Sunlight also has positive effects on mood through serotonin release. The key is to have careful sun exposure for its positive effects and minimize ultraviolet damage. That damage is best limited by using sunscreen that has a sun protection factor of 30 or greater and offers broad spectrum protection from both UA and UVB rays. It is very important to read the product labels carefully.

Since there are no certified organic sunscreens, a base application of organic skin moisturizer may be protective before applying sunscreen. It may also limit any skin absorption of the chemical ingredients in common sunscreens.

Skin Types

Today we would like to share an article by Dr. Hari Bezwada about skin types.

Skin Types

Depending on our skin type, a specific skin regimen may be most helpful in treating and nourishing  our skin.

Oily skin

Sebaceous glands secrete oils which contain wax esters, triglycerides, and squalene.  These lipids form a layer that keeps moisture in the skin.  Increased sebum production results in oily skin.  Oil production may be affected by diet, stress, hormones, and genetics.

Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin will be prone to inflammation which may include acne, rosacea, stinging, and allergic subtypes.

Allergic

Allergens, chemicals, and irritants invade the skin creating an inflammatory response.  Cosmetic ingredients may also incite this type of inflammatory response.  Fragrances and preservatives are among the most common skin allergens.

Sun protection

Regular use of sunscreen will be protective against the harmful effects of ultraviolet light.

Anti-aging and wrinkle prevention

There are both intrinsic and extrinsic factors for aging. Individual genetics plays the largest role in intrinsic aging. Extrinsic aging results from environmental factors that may be controlled such as smoking, pollution, nutrition, and sun exposure. Sun protection is a key to wrinkle prevention.  Wrinkles are caused by changes in the dermis. The goals of wrinkle prevention are to stop the loss of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The regular use of antioxidants will likely prevent some of the effects of extrinsic factors.

When developing your own individual skin regimen, it’s important to know the ingredients that make up the regimen. Let’s look at several of the naturally occurring ingredients that make up the skin care products from Anamê Vio.

Rose-hip oil reduces the appearance of cellulite and prevents scars. Rose-hip oil is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants especially vitamin c, which are integral for tissue and cell regeneration in the skin. Vitamin a penetrates deeply and moisturizes helping to reduce scars and fine lines.  Rose-hip also has high concentrations of vitamins E, B1, B2, and cicatrizing properties. This is perhaps the reason why rose-hip oil has long been used as a folk remedy for wound healing and the reduction of scars and fine lines.

Aloe has bioactive compounds rich in vitamins A, B, C, D and E as well as minerals like magnesium, potassium and zinc.  These all aid in the healing benefits of aloe.

Fractionated coconut oil reduces visibility of wrinkles and saggy skin. It contains a high number of antioxidants deeply moisturizing and improving elasticity.

Scars

Think of your skin as fabric wrapping our vital organs. Tears in this fine fabric can alter its appearance.  Injuries to our skin may lead to scarring. These particular types of injuries include burns, trauma and surgery. Most scars never completely go away. Fibrous tissue replaces normal skin and the arrangement of this collagen is in a different pattern. This scar tissue lacks the elasticity of normal skin as well.  And while scarring is a natural part of healing following injury, depending on the location of the scar, it may negatively affect your overall appearance.

  • Keloid scars generally result from an overly aggressive healing process.  These scars extend beyond the site of the original injury.  Movement might be limited and they most commonly occur in people with darker complexions.

  • Contracture scars usually form on burned skin.  Movement may become limited as they contract.  This scarring may affect the deeper tissues.

  • Hypertrophic scars are generally raised, red scars that extend beyond the boundary of the injury.

  • Acne scars are pitting that can be angular or wavelike in appearance.

  • Stretch marks occur when the skin is stretched rapidly.
  • Chemical peels, Filler injections, Laser treatments

  • Radiotherapy

  • Specialized Dressings

  • Surgery: Microdermabrasion and Dermabrasion

  • Micro-needling

  • Vitamin A & B Complex, Zinc, Omega Fatty Acids, Vitamin E & Vitamin C, Onion Extract

  • Cosmetics, Sun Protection, Topical Skin Treatments
Anamê Vio has a variety all natural and organic skin treatments that contain ingredients that help in the reparative process following injuries to our skin.  The elixir serum and both the body emulsion and facial repair creams contain blueberry and rosehip oil.  These key ingredients enhance and encourage the body’s natural repair process.

Blueberries have the pigment anthocyanin which gives blueberries their natural color.  It also is a powerful antioxidant protecting our skin from the effects of free radicals.  Free radicals may damage cellular DNA and accelerate the aging process.  Rosehip is rich in essential fatty acids which help in the tissue and cell regeneration.  Combining these powerful ingredients creates a product that repairs our skin and treats expression lines, dark spots, wounds, and scars.  Rosehips and blueberries are also rich in vitamin C which is an important element in collagen production.  Vitamin C must be carefully extracted from rosehips otherwise much of it will be unusable.  Anamê Vio Organic Beauty extracts the vitamin C to retain as much of its natural efficacy as possible.

Skin Care in the Modern Era

I’d like to introduce you to an idea about skin care in the modern era.  First we have to think about what’s the biggest barrier for our bodies to the outside environment.  Like body armor to the medieval knight, our skin protects us from toxins and harmful pathogens.  Its also the first thing that others see.  It’s our first impression and protector.  It also happens to be the largest organ of the body.  Today we really think a lot about avoiding toxins, harmful chemicals and environmental pathogens that can create an inflammatory process in the body. So it’s important as part of a healthy lifestyle to engage in proper diet, careful nutrition, an appropriate exercise program, and it is also as important to feed the largest organ of the body.  We should feed the skin the same way we feed our bodies.  We’re very careful about what we put in it, whether that’s about avoiding processed foods that might contain preservatives, hormones, and genetic modification.  Diets containing fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants reduce inflammatory processes in our bodies.  We should think in that same way when it comes to feeding our skin.

“Factors influencing heart disease may include both the food we eat and the toxins we expose ourselves to.  Toxins on our skin may become absorbed and have harmful side effects.”

Many of the skin products that are out there may be petroleum based and contain parabens.  Additionally, they may contain preservatives and synthetic chemicals that can potentially create an inflammatory process in the skin and the body. So just like we want to be careful about food and to eat food that is antioxidant rich and natural we should also take that same care with the skin.  The benefit of organic and all natural products are that they’re all around us that they’re safe and they will not create an inflammatory problem that we have to deal with. Inflammatory processes in the skin are not just limited to the small scope of what you think.  From the skin it can create an inflammatory process with deeper ramifications.  As an example the cause of heart disease is an inflammatory process, poor diet, genetic predisposition, and metabolic syndrome.   Factors influencing heart disease may include both the food we eat and the toxins we expose ourselves to.  Toxins on our skin may become absorbed and have harmful side effects.

The basic structure of the skin has the epidermis superficially and the dermis below.  Below the dermis is the hypodermis and subcutaneous tissue.  The subcutaneous tissue contains fat, hair follicles, sweat glands, connective tissues, and blood vessels.  The epidermis is made up of four layers.  The bottom layer is made of basal cells that reproduce skin cells that become more superficial until they become the top layer and slough or exfoliate off.  That is essentially the skin cycle which takes 26-42 days and the skin cycle extends as we age.  The uppermost cells contain natural moisturizing factor and these cells also reflect light giving a uniform and radiant appearance.  Cells in the middle of the epidermis release substances creating a protective film containing lipids. Resistant skin creates a solid barrier and prevents allergens and irritants from the deeper layers, whereas, sensitive skin is a weak barrier making it vulnerable to reactions.  The main aging process in skin is wrinkling.  Wrinkle prevention is a multi-step process.  Protection from ultraviolet light and use of sunscreen is an essential part of it.  Other external factors include smoking and poor nutrition.  Antioxidants on the skin may also help prevent extrinsic aging.

In our society beauty and esthetics are held to a high standard.  We are in constant search for products and solutions that can provide beautiful healthy young exuberance. There are a variety of products that are available that can do that as we’re all aware in the marketplace.  However, there are few products that are all natural and organic.  Anamê Vio  is one and it is also free of any petroleum based products and without parabens.  All of the ingredients are naturally occurring and there has been no animal testing.   Not many products have been certified as organic by several regulatory agencies.  While there are many options out there that can enhance beauty and provide a youthful appearance and exuberance this is really the only natural way to do it and natural is more than just saying its naturally occurring.

Let’s look at several of the naturally occurring ingredients that make up the skin care products from Anamê Vio .Rosehip oil reduces the appearance of cellulite and prevents scars.  It contains the antioxidant vitamin c which may stimulate collagen production and vitamin a which penetrates deeply and moisturizes reducing cellulite.  Marula oil contains high levels of antioxidants, most notably vitamins c and e, tocotrienol, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and essential amino acids.  They help in cell renewal and damage prevention.  Essential fatty acids deeply hydrate preventing water loss and increasing smoothness.  The antioxidant protection prevents premature aging. Fractionated coconut oil reduces visibility of wrinkles and saggy skin.  It contains a high number of antioxidants deeply moisturizing and improving elasticity.

“There has been no animal testing and these products are certified as organic from the USDA.  This may be an essential part of a lifestyle that’s healthy and organic.”

Number one, what we put in our body, number two what we put on our body and number three how we treat our body. So these are three essential steps in developing a sustainable healthy organic natural lifestyle that will keep you healthy for years to come.
